GGM - Past and present
GGM Studios is the first and only Toto’s and Steve Lukather’s Italian Official Toto Website since 1993 and the only currently active throught the world. This reference site for all Toto-Fans was born from the brilliant idea of Domenico, Denise and Andrea, who actually are part of the managerial staff, in order to blend together the passion for music in general with the endless love for this phenomenal Californian band.
GGM was born on November 12th, 1993 at Biassono, a small town in the province of Milan. Initially Domenico, together with a group of friends, enjoy performing across the whole Brianza, doing cabaret shows and playing the magical music of Toto with a Toto Tribute Band.
Years pass and GGM collect some success by entering in several local and national tv stations performing Toto music as a Tribute Band.
They live a very exciting period in radio and newspapers, but all good things come to an end and GGM, as a cover band, is done in 1999 by mutual agreement.
In this very moment Domenico comes up with the great idea to create a virtual place on the web where all Toto fans could exchange point of views, talk and chat of all topics, but most of all they can talk about their idols: Toto. So on October 18th, 1999 takes form the first Italian FanSite dedicated to the music of Toto: www.ggmstudios.it
The idea is good since the beginning and many people leave several messages of appreciation in the guestbook section; at first only the Italian users but later also from different foreign countries people begins to write anytime.
For reasons of space and layouts on May 18th 2003, GGM transfer the website to a new server and the domain changes from www.ggmstudios.it to the current www.ggmstudios.com.
In 2004 GGM guys work for months to an idea that later became a reality: the first GGM Award in the history is delivered on July 9th 2004 to Toto members after an exciting concert in Brescia, during their 2004 summer tour.
The work gradually becomes harder and requires more time for the site management: Denise, life’s and work’s companion of Domenico, comes to support the guys.
The three GGM guys began to move forward, without ever stopping for a moment, putting body and soul to their project and at the end they obtained, by the Band itself, their site to become the OFFICIAL TOTO ITALIAN WEBSITE.
Between the end of 2005 and the beginning of 2006 ambitions are getting bigger and bigger and the fanclub management and all the events require another member to be added from the original staff. Andrea, the fourth element of the team, is welcomed as the promoter.
In this period the staff made a pact of cooperation with Frontiers Records, the new label of the Band.
The idea that jumps to the head of GGM is to arrange two release parties in Milan and Rome for a preview of Toto latest album “Falling in between” for the fans. With the next move, always supported by the courtesy of Frontiers, it was decided to organize some Meet & Greet with the Band, to achieve the dream of many fans to shake hands with their favourite musicians.
In the following years GGM organizes several interviews with various members of the Band and is always present when the Group arrives to Italy, organizing events, clinics and meet & greet.
The fanclub itself follows the Band in Europe, America and Asia (Zurich, Budapest, Montecarlo, Mexico, Los Angeles and Tokyo 2008 during their last tour).
For this very reason over the passing years a strong friendship between Toto Members and the GGM guys is well established. Toto Members always show their kindness toward the Italian Fanclub.
In 2008 we also created the official anthem for Toto Fans called IV Toto (www.ivtoto.com) in collaboration with Bobby Kimball and other great musicians.
We work constantly with Frontiers Records, Toto new label, Sony-Bmg. Mogar Music S.p.A., MMI Modern Music Institute, Sounds of Pisces, Edel Italia and Eagle Rock.
Following this period of time GGM Studios participated to the various concerts of Toto in Italy and promoted all of their albums and tours all around the world, as well as the solo initiatives of band members, including the ones who joined for each tour.
In 2013 the GGM President, Domenico, met Marco and Mauro Ferrari, who joined the GGM family, and decided to start a project that Domenico had in mind for many years.
This project changed when Mike Porcaro passed away. Domenico and Marco then decided to dedicate a song to Mike and make a benefit project to raise money for trhe fight against ALS and asked to GGM friends like Leland Sklar and Scott Page to participate to the project.
Then Steve Porcaro and Shannon Forrest, Toto drummer, joined and the project became reality. A song written by Marco, and his brother Mauro, and played by the great musicians of the Toto family: Steve Porcaro, Leland Sklar (bass), Scott Page (sax), Shannon Forrest (drums) and the voice of GGM dear friend Alessandro Del Vecchio.
During the process of making this song, Domenico and Marco had the idea of working on another song with the participation of longtime Domenico’s friend, mr. Bobby Kimball, who came to Italy to sing and track in the studio.
These two songs, Precious Time and Thank You Grazie, were published in a mini EP in 2016 under the title GGM PRECIOUS TIME. GGM began a worldwide promotion with the help of all its friends, all Toto members and friends, Roby facchinetti of Pooh and Volcano Promotion, who all kindly believed in the good cause.
After two years of work GGM organized with “La Meridiana” of Monza, a benefit concert at the Bank of Desio Auditorium, where at the end of the evening donated the amount raised by selling the album to Toto fans and friends all around the world, thank you!
In the meantime GGM Studios followed with great participation the releasing of the long awaited Toto XIV album produced by CJ Vanston. and published by Frontiers Records.
The album lineup saw the comeback of David Hungate, Steve Porcaro, and Lenny Castro, and was followed by a two times world tour.
GGM for this occasion, in collaboration with their label Frontiers Records, organized two release parties in Milan and Naples (Frontiers Headquarters) with a great following by Toto fans. These events were also mentioned on national television (Rai2) and local tv and radio stations.
Then Toto left Frontiers Records and rejoined Sony for their 40th anniversary and GGM in collaboration with Sony Italy organized a release party in Milan and promotion for the world tour for the upcoming new album and collection of their songs remastered plus some new and unreleased tracks. In the concert held in Milan, GGM Studios gave a check of the amount raised with the GGM PRECIOUS TIME Project.
Not to forget all the GGM Awards that GGM STUDIOS gave in all these recent years: EXTREME, POOH, JIM PETERIK, L.A. GUNS, STEVE GADD, JOE PORCARO and MARCO FERRADINI.
GGM promoted also the first and wonderful solo album by Steve Porcaro “Someday – Somehow”, and Fabrizio Grossi’s two albums with his Supersonic Blues Machine band.
Then the pandemic occurred and all tours and projectswere stopped. Until the beginning of 2021 that saw the release of two solo albums, one by Steve Lukather and one by Joseph Williams. Again GGM made his effort to let the people know about this projects on the web, social and radio interviews (radio Lombardia)
It’s a recent news that this album will be followed by a world tour with a new Toto band lineup.
GGM - Passato e presente
Il GGM Studios è dal 1993 il primo e l’unico Website e Fanclub ufficiale italiano dei Toto e di Steve Lukather, nonché il solo attualmente attivo in tutto il mondo. Questo sito di riferimento di tutti i Toto-fan nasce dalla brillante idea di Domenico, Denise ed Andrea, che attualmente compongono lo staff dirigenziale, per poter fondere assieme la passione per la musica in generale con l’amore smisurato per questa fenomenale band californiana.
I GGM nascono il 12 novembre del 1993 a Biassono, una piccola cittadina della provincia di Milano. Inizialmente Domenico, assieme ad un gruppo di amici, si divertono ad attraversare in lungo e largo la Brianza, facendo cabaret e suonando la magica musica dei Toto con una Toto tribute band. Gli anni passano e i GGM riscuotono un certo successo riuscendo ad approdare in varie emittenti televisive locali e anche nazionali con le loro esibizioni.
Vivono un periodo davvero entusiasmante tra radio e giornali, ma come tutte le cose belle, prima o poi, finiscono ed i GGM, come cover band, si sciolgono nel 1999 di comune accordo.
E’ da questo preciso momento che a Domenico viene la geniale idea di creare un luogo virtuale sul web dove tutti i fans dei Toto potessero scambiarsi opinioni, parlare e sparlare di tutti gli argomenti, ma soprattutto dei loro idoli, i Toto. Ecco che 18 ottobre 1999 nasce il primo portale italiano dedicato alla musica dei Toto, www.ggmstudios.it. L’idea piace fin da subito e tante persone lasciano numerosi messaggi di apprezzamento nella sezione del guestbook; inizialmente solo utenti italiani ma poi anche dall’estero iniziano a farsi sentire sempre più insistentemente. Per ragioni di spazio e di eccessive visualizzazioni il 18 maggio 2003 i GGM trasferiscono il portale su un nuovo server e anche il dominio diviene da www.ggmstudios.it all’attuale www.ggmstudios.com.
Da questo preciso istante inizia la vera avventura del GGM Studios come Official Website dei Toto in Italia.
Nel 2004 i GGM lavorano per mesi ad un’idea che poi sarebbe diventata realtà: il primo GGM Award della storia consegnato il 9 luglio 2004 ai Toto dopo un entusiasmante concerto a Brescia, in occasione del loro summer tour 2004.
Il lavoro via via diventa sempre più duro e richiede sempre più tempo per la gestione del sito: viene così in loro sostegno Denise, compagna nella vita e nel lavoro di Domenico.
I tre GGM pensarono sempre più in grande, senza mai fermarsi un attimo, dedicando anima e corpo al loro progetto fino ad ottenere l’ufficialità del sito da parte della Band stessa, diventando così OFFICIAL TOTO ITALIAN WEBSITE.
Tra la fine del 2005 e l’inizio del 2006 le ambizioni diventano sempre maggiori e la gestione del fanclub e di tutti gli eventi in programma porta lo staff del GGM ad accogliere il quarto elemento del team, Andrea, in qualità di promoter. In questo periodo lo staff firma un patto di collaborazione con la Frontiers Records, la nuova etichetta discografica della Band.
L’idea che balza in testa al GGM è quella di organizzare dei release party a Milano e Roma per far sentire agli amanti dei Toto in anteprima il nuovo album Falling in Between. Con la mossa successiva, sempre supportati dalla cortesia della Frontiers, si decide di organizzare dei veri e propri Meet & Greet con la Band, per realizzare il sogno di molti di poter stringere la mano ai loro musicisti preferiti.
Negli anni seguenti il GGM organizza innumerevoli interviste ai vari componenti della Band e si fa sempre trovare presente ogni qualvolta il gruppo sbarca in Italia, organizzando eventi, clinic e meet & greet. Inoltre lo stesso fanclub segue anche all’estero in alcuni appuntamenti particolari i Toto, a Zurigo, Budapest, Montecarlo, Messico, Los Angeles e Tokyo nel 2008 in occasione del concerto d’addio della Band. E’ proprio per questo motivo che nel corso degli anni si istaura un forte legame d’amicizia con Luke ed il resto della famiglia Toto dimostrandosi ogni volta particolarmente disponibili e protettivi nei confronti del fanclub italiano. Nel 2008 inoltre abbiamo ideato l’inno ufficiale dei fan dei Toto chiamato appunto IV Toto (www.ivtoto.com) con la collaborazione e la voce di Bobby Kimball e di altri fantastici musicisti.
Collaboriamo costantemente con la Frontiers Records, etichetta discografica dei Toto, Sony-Bmg, Mogar Music S.p.a, MMI Modern Music Institute, Sounds of Pisces, Edel Italia e Eagle Rock.
Dopo questo periodo, il GGM Studios ha seguito e partecipato ai vari concerti dei Toto fino ad oggi, e ha fatto la promozione dei loro album e tour in tutto il mond compreso gli album da solista dei vari componenti del gruppo.
Nel 2013 poi, il presidente del GGM e incontra Marco Ferrari e Mauro Ferrari, i quali iniziarono a partecipare alle attività del GGM Studios e a collaborare in tutte le iniziative di questo nuovo pèeriodo dei Toto che coinciderà con l’uscita dell’attesissimo album Toto XIV.
Domenico and Marco nel 2014 decisero di portare avanti un progetto che il GGM aveva in mente da anni. Questo progetto cambiò leggermente quando Mike Porcaro morì. Quindi venne deciso di dedicare questo progetto con una canzone di beneficenza per raccogliere fondi per la ricerca contro la SLA. Per l’occasione venne chiesto ad alcuni amici del GGM , come Leland Sklar and Scott Page, di partecipare al progetto.
Ovviamente dissero subito si, ed in seguito anche Steve Porcaro e Shannon Forrest, l’attuale batterista dei Toto, presero parte all’iniziativa.
La canzone, dal titolo GGM Precious Time, scritta da Marco e Mauro Ferrari, fu in seguito registrata e suonata da Marco, e dai musicisti della famiglia Toto: Steve Porcaro, Shannon Forrest (batteria), Leland Sklar (basso), Scott Page (sax), a cui si aggiunge la voce di un altro caro amico del GGM, Alessandro Del Vecchio.
Durante la realizzazione di Precious Time, a Domenico e Marco venne l’idea di lavorare a un’altra canzone con la partecipazione di un’amico di vecchia data di Domenico, mr. Bobby Kimball, che venne in Italia per cantare e registrare in studio. Seguirono poi le registrazioni da Los Angeles di Fabrizio Grossi al basso e Wes Little alla batteria oltre alla chitarra di Marco Ferrari.
Queste due canzoni, Precious Time e Thank You Grazie,sono state poi pubblicate in un mini EP nel 2016 con il titolo GGM PRECIOUS TIME. Segui poi una promozione internazionale del GGM con l’aiuto di tutti i suoi amici, dei membri dei Toto, Roby Facchinetti dei Pooh e la Volcano Promotion, i quali tutti credettero nella buona causa.
Dopo un paio d’anni di lavoro e impegno, il GGM organizzò con l’associazione “La Meridiana” di Monza un concerto di beneficenza presso l’auditorium del Banco di Desio dove vennero donati alla fine della serata tutti i soldi raccolti dalla vendita dei dischi a tutti i fan e amici dei Toto in tutto il mondo, grazie!
Nel frattempo il GGM Studios ha organizzato il release party per l’uscita dell’album Toto XIV in collaborazione con l’etichetta Frontiers Records, uno a Milano e uno a Napoli i quali ricevettero un grande seguito. Anche la tv nazionale, Rai2 e tv e radio locali ne parlarono.
In seguito i Toto lasciarono la Frontiers Records e tornarono con la Sony Records in occasione del loro quarantesimo anniversario, ed il GGM in collaborazione con la Sony Italia, organizzo un release party in occasione del lancio del nuovo album e la promozione dell’album e del successivo tour. Nella tappa italiana di Milano il GGM incontrò i Toto dove avvenne la foto della consegna della raccolta dei fondi del GGM PRECIOUS TIME project.
Da non dimenticare sono poi i vari GGM Award consegnati agli EXTREME, ai POOH, JIM PETERIK, L.A. GUNS, STEVE GADD; JOE PORCARO e MARCO FERRADINI
In seguito il GGM seguì l’uscita dell’album da solista di Steve Porcaro “Someday – Somehow” e ne fece la promozione come anche dei 2 album dei Supersonic Blues Machine dell’amico Fabrizio Grossi & friends.
Poi la pandemia e lo stop dei tour e concerti che però vede l’uscita di due album da solista di Steve Lukather e Joseph Williams. Anche in questo caso il GGM si impegna a far sapere a tutti di questi 2 dischi con i mezzi possibili in questo particolare periodo; il web, i social e organizzando delle interviste in radio. È notizia recente che questi 2 dischi saranno seguiti da un tour mondiale dei Toto con una nuova formazione fatta da nuovi musicisti.
